Enter The Sombrero Mine
El Corazon This rock formation, ‘chipped’ into the shape of a Heart by the Spanish/Mexican Miners, can only be seen from the East, and identifies the Mule trail to the mine. It is located about 1 mile East of Tortilla Flat.
In October of 2009, my wife and I started reading Lost Dutchman Mine stories on the Internet. After a few days of reading, a few facts stood out: The Dutchman clues have changed over the years of re-telling, and he found a Mexican mine. Also, the Mexicans, following the ways of the Spaniards, were very detailed and accurate in their maps and clues. With Google Earth, Topo Maps and using the Mexican Clues, we located The Sombrero Mine and many others. As this did not fit the location of the Lost Dutchman Mine, we spent a few more days researching why. The Legend of The Lost Dutchman Mine is but a piece of the history of a rich Mexican Gold Mine called ‘The Sombrero Mine‘.
